Our vision at Resonance is to raise up Spirit lead disciples of Jesus Christ. Before, we get into how we disciple spirit led Christians, let’s talk about what we mean by “Spirit led” disciples. The type of Spirit led disciples we raise up are able to be used by God, anytime, anywhere.
For ease, we’ll call this Prophetic Evangelism.
How we disciple people at Resonance is through a series of small groups. We call this series of small groups our discipleship process. Our discipleship process has seven small groups, or seven steps. Each of the steps in our process builds on the one before it. For this reason we don’t let people just hop into any step anywhere along the way, but insist that everyone goes through it from start to finish.
The first step in our process of discipleship is “The Alpha Course”. The Alpha Course or Alpha, is an evangelistic tool for churches that focuses on bringing people together to build relationships, eating a meal together, and present the Gospel using videos over several weeks, giving people many opportunities to get saved. Alpha culminates in a “Holy Spirit weekend” where people have the opportunity to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
The second step in our process of discipleship is our “God-time” step. Our God-time step focuses on developing three Christian disciplines by spending a three or for weeks on each of them individually. The first discipline is daily reading the scriptures. This discipline is so important to us at Resonance that it will be touched on for a couple minutes at the beginning of both the other two disciplines in this step and all the steps of our discipleship process after this. The second discipline in our God-time step is spending time in Worship. The third area we look at in this step of the process is intercessory prayer.
The third step of our process of discipleship is our Membership Class. Our membership class will focus on expectations of the church, and healthy accountability. Also we will look at things we believe and hold to as a church, but don’t spend much time focusing on in regular church services. We at Resonance have decided to do membership here at this stage of the process because of the spiritual nature of the training people receive afterward. We think it’s fine to get any and everyone saved, Baptized in the Holy Spirit, in their bibles, praying, and worshiping, without any commitment back from them. But the people we train to operate in the Spirit need to have healthy spiritual accountability, and be apart of us as a church. For us to go deeper, we need to go together, and committed to each other.
The fourth step of our process of discipleship is “the four keys to hearing God’s voice” workbook by Mark Virkler. This course teaches how to dialogue with God using a prayer journal to keep track of what the Lord says to you, to help you develop your ability to rightly discern the Lord’s voice in your heart. This step is huge for believers, and leaves a significant impact on the rest of the believer's life in Christ.
The fifth step of our process of discipleship is our Prophetic School. Using their new found ability to hear God’s voice, this step of our process looks at what the bible says about prophecy. We look at the difference between Old and New Testament Prophecy. What kind of prophecy all believers have access to. It gives practical guidelines for prophesying, and looks at what the bibles says to do when we receive good prophetic words and words that miss it (just to name a few topics). The last half hour of this group time is dedicated to hands on application, where we get to put into practice what we just learned about the prophetic in that class.
The sixth step of our process of discipleship is our “Treasure Hunts”. Based off the book “The ultimate treasure hunt” by Kevin Dedmond, “Treasure Hunts” are a form of Prophetic Evangelism where you pray and ask God for clues. You write down those Prophetic clues and go out and find them. It’s almost like a game using your new confidence in the prophetic that develops your ability to be led by the Spirit.
The seventh step of our process of discipleship is our “walkabouts”. If you Google the definition of walkabout (1/5/2020), the first thing that pops up says, “an informal stroll among a crowd conducted by an important visitor”. Another definition states it as when a person of significance steps off a stage to have an informal stroll into a crowd, where he speaks something of importance to people individually. Our “walkabouts” take the prophetic leading of the Holy Spirit we learned in our treasure hunts, and brings it into our personal space, by going to places we go in our day to day lives, and intentionally focusing on being led by the Spirit to give a word to whoever he wants, so that in our regular lives, we’re equipped to be led by His Spirit, anytime and anywhere. One person described this step as being like, “on the job training, for being led by the Spirit, in your normal day to day life”. That is exactly what it aims to be.
